Choosing the Career You Want

An HVAC contractor installs and repairs heating equipment and appliances such as heaters, ducts and air conditioning systems and their associated components including ductwork, pumps, thermostats and other heat transfer devices. A license from the State licensing board is required to do work on any type of heating or cooling device.

Heating contractors must have an accredited college degree or higher that can be obtained through education or by completion of an apprenticeship under the supervision of a licensed engineer or technician. A licensed engineer or contractor must have an accredited college degree or higher and must have at least one year of experience. The certificate of accomplishment or license number must be provided to the licensing board.

The contractor’s certification is generally good for three years. During that time the contractor must pass a licensing examination and pass an exam administered by the State licensing board. The license must also be renewed periodically by paying a renewal fee. In some cases, if the contractor has not been licensed for three years the renewal fee will be waived.

If a contractor is not licensed and wants to provide HVAC services, they must apply to the Department of Business and Professional Regulations to become a contractor. When the contractor is approved, they will have to take an exam to become licensed.

The contractor’s license is good for two years. The Department of Business and Professional Regulations will re-issue the license after a two-year waiting period.

There are two categories of contractors: certified and unlicensed. Certified contractors are those that are licensed by the State licensing board and are registered with the National Code Council (NCC).

Unlicensed contractors are those that have not met the requirements for a contractor’s license and are not registered with the NCC. These contractors are referred to as unlicensed contractors. These contractors cannot register with the NCC.

There are other types of licenses that the HVAC contractor will need to provide for their service. For instance, a building inspector will require that they pass a certification test, a fire alarm inspection, and an occupational health and safety training course to become certified. In order to be licensed, a contractor needs to pass an examination for their field and the state of residence.

There are several areas of the contractor’s career that they must work in. The first area of the career is providing services to heating and air conditioning systems. The second area is supplying services to mechanical systems.

The first area of the career is providing services to HVAC systems. These services include installation, maintenance, repair and installation of heating and air conditioning systems. These services include the installation of heat pumps, heating and air conditioning systems, refrigerators, condensing, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.

The second area of the career includes providing services to air conditioning systems. These services include servicing, repairs and maintenance of air conditioning systems. They also may provide installation and repair of the thermostat, circuit breakers, circuit breaker boxes and the duct work.

The third area of the career is providing services to plumbing. This service includes maintaining the plumbing system.

There are several career choices available. Some of these choices include: heating and air conditioning contractor, plumbing contractor, and plumbing and heating technician.

The first step you should take when you are looking to become a heating contractor is to find out about your options. The best way to learn about your options is to attend a heating and air conditioning contractors training school. In most states, you can be licensed in three years. If you want to work in other states, you might have to take additional courses in order to be licensed.

Another option you have is to become an apprentice to a heating contractor. You can learn the basics of the trade and work your way up. until you get your license and certification. You may want to work as a general contractor, a roofing contractor or a landscaper. before you become a licensed.

The best way to learn about your education options is to go to a heating and air conditioning contractors school. Your education program will give you the knowledge you need to work as a heating contractor.
